Rita führt sozusagen das norm...。昭和30年，作家横沟正史正在构思一部以童谣为引子的侦探小说，适逢金田一耕助前往小村庄休假，横沟便拜托他顺便收集一些儿歌回来。金田一一踏进村子便听到手毬歌以及年轻人清池歌名雄的歌声，大家正在为红歌星大空由加利——原名别所千惠——的衣锦还乡作准备。爱嚼舌头的村长告诉金田一大空由加利是20年前的嫌疑杀人犯诈欺师恩田与别所的私生女，根据源次郎之妻青池有香的口供，20年前，龟汤旅馆的老板青池源次郎神秘被杀是因为对恩田的诈欺产生了怀疑，现今恩田仍旧下落不明。 不久，村长被杀。继而先后与歌名雄有过婚约的文子、泰子亦遭到杀害，她们全是恩田的私生女，一切都跟许久以前的手毬歌有关。而目前所听到的手毬歌少了最后一段，金田一判断还有最后一个受害者，而同是私生女的别所千惠最为危险。当得知源次郎当年是名噪一时的无声电影配音员时，金田一开始怀疑当年的案件，死去的人真的是源次郎吗？此时又有一个女子被害了，不过不是别所千惠……。
