But the end of her empire is closer than she thinks.。讲述了1950年前后，在上海新中国第一代公安战士与蒋介石特务企图颠覆新中国而斗争的故事，故事围绕一位拥有高智商但在旧社会并不得志、在新中国得到自新并成长的旧时期小警察与一位经验丰富的中共老特工联手搭档展开。。这是一首歌颂古巴的银幕诗篇，跟爱森斯坦的墨西哥纪录片相似。影片的政治寓意埋藏在强烈的视觉和听觉形象中，技巧非常高超，比如片头有一个高难度的长镜头令人叹为观止。剧本由当时当红的苏联诗人和古巴小说家执笔，导演曾因《雁南飞》荣获戛纳影展金棕榈奖。。
