20世纪30年代的上海滩时局动荡，军阀混战，民不聊生。为购买一块江湖流传的宝玉，知名商贾周成川来到莽山中的一座破庙中，与尊号“三目天师”的容易道人和同乡阿述交易，风尘女子朱玲玲则作为中间人作陪。不料正赶上大雨，众人被困在庙中。容易道人几人却告知周成川宝玉生意要在规定时辰才能交易，在交易之前，要先给周成川讲一个故事……起因是一段张督军死亡之事……周成川听的不耐烦，又觉得几个人故弄玄虚，生起疑心，决定要走，这时，警长阿顺中途闯入，以查办张督军案为由拦下周成川，周成川以为容易和警官串通，要讹诈他钱财。众人继续讲述案件和故事，亲眼目睹的有，道听途说的则添油加醋。听完故事的周成川惊恐万分，周成川之所以如此害怕，是源于一段昔日的生死恩怨……。宁家大小姐宁芷在跑腿送货上门中，发现酒店房间里的两人竟是相恋六年的未婚夫与自己同父异母的妹妹。。A film director gathers his favorite actresses, those he worked with and those he loved.
