Desperate to avoid facing his own traumatic reality, the man must venture outside to find a replacement, into a city where violence and danger lurk beneath a skim of beautiful illusion.。西尔维亚生活在富足的家庭里，但一年前她的妈妈患上抑郁症，家里的一切都因此改变。西尔维亚一直想去罗马，却因妈妈的病迟迟没能动身。这让她很不高兴，于是和父亲争吵后离家出走，独自前往罗马。父母发现女儿失踪后急坏了，立刻报警寻找她。在火车上，西尔维亚认识了吉普赛女孩埃米娜。埃米娜发现她很聪明，能帮自己赚钱，便带她去广场乞讨。晚上，埃米娜还带她参加了吉普赛人的聚会。好景不长，寻找西尔维亚的广告在电视上播出，很多人误以为埃米娜绑架了她，于是破坏了吉普赛人的营地。为了保护埃米娜一家，西尔维亚主动离开。很快她被警察找到，来罗马寻女的妈妈第一时间赶到警察局，母女终于重逢。。
